Strength
Metal is known for its exceptional strength. This is especially true of steel – it can withstand a lot of ground movement and is less likely to deform when impacted. However, in many cases, it will still hold its shape for a long time.

Because metal edging can be made very thin while still maintaining its strength, it can have a subtlety that other forms of edging lack. A slightly protruding metal edging that separates lawn from gravel can create a nearly invisible effect while maintaining a clean straight line between grass and gravel. Of course, metal edging doesn't have to be subtle, there are ways to turn it into a statement piece (such as decorative cast iron), however those who want a minimalist look will find metal to be the best solution.

Waterproofing
Unlike wood and some bricks, metal doesn't absorb water. It won't rot or flake and will hold its shape. Yes, most types of metal will corrode in water. But the metal commonly used for landscape edging won't wear away, but simply develop a patina. This weatherproof quality makes metal a popular choice.

Long-lasting
While it depends on the quality of the metal, both steel and aluminum edging can generally be expected to last for 20 years or more. This is much longer than wooden edging, which can generally last 5 to 10 years. Metal edging can last for decades if properly maintained. Many warranties cover metal edging for 10 to 15 years.

Easy to Install
While some metal edging can be very complex and therefore a hassle to install, most metal edging are easy to install in the ground. As mentioned earlier, some metal edging have nails or stakes to help secure them. You can find many videos online that teach you how to install them.
